A Halloween Night with Cardists in Beijing — Event Recap

Oct 31, 2026 THE BRICKS · Sanlitun, Beijing

On Halloween night, the Beijing magic and cardistry community got together at THE BRICKS jazz club in Sanlitun — a bar, small round tables, warm lights, and a room full of people with decks in their hands. Bacon Magic was glad to be one of the sponsors of the evening.

A room full of decks

Long before the official start, tables were already busy: new decks being passed around, moves being traded, newcomers being introduced. Old friends didn't need much encouragement — the cards came out first.

New releases, off the screen

The host team brought their regular launch session to the room, so instead of seeing new work through a screen, everyone could hold it and look closely. Three Halloween-season decks were presented: a pumpkin-themed deck with a jack-o'-lantern box and cobweb backs, a black ghost edition with web and ghost details, and a clue-themed deck built from paper collage, made in collaboration with a guest creator.

Candy, games and a deck for everyone

Halloween means candy first. After the sweets, every attendee received a gift deck — the organiser's newest release — as a small keepsake of the people they played with that night. Then came the games: players took turns showing moves on stage while the room cheered them on, and there was even a water-pouring challenge that had everyone leaning in at exactly the same height.

Prize bags put together by the organisers and sponsors meant nobody left empty-handed — some went up to collect a prize, and everybody went home with a deck.

Why we show up

A niche hobby deserves its own rituals: leaving the house for something you love, sitting down with people who love it the same way. Some performed on stage, some practised at the tables, and some kept a deck in hand even while eating. As the organiser put it — you can take a break, but the cards don't have to.

For us, that is exactly the kind of room worth supporting. Thank you to everyone who came, to the organisers, host and photographers, and to the fellow sponsors The Virts, TCC, YUCI, KINGSTAR and MRG.
