Permission & Usage

M3 - Fully Open, Credit Required

You may freely study, copy, modify, share, build and commercially sell the designs published in this project, including republishing the original design files and modified versions of them, without applying for separate permission or paying a licence fee. You must retain the original author, the design source and the applicable licence information. When selling products commercially, you must state the original design source and describe your own improvements honestly.

Project-specific terms (published in English)
The dual-liquid vessel principle is a traditional magic concept in the public domain - we do not claim exclusive rights over it. If you develop your own solution independently, without using the design files published here, no credit is required and your work has no connection to this project. Design files are provided under CERN-OHL-P-2.0; accompanying text and images under CC BY 4.0. Credit: JD Jingzao's Huixin Teapot and Zhuanyi Cup inspired this work and deserves the same acknowledgment from anyone building on this lineage.

Traditional dual-liquid teapots (historical magic apparatus).

JD Jingzao (回心壶转意杯) — Huixin Teapot and Zhuanyi Cup, discovered late 2025. We acknowledge this modern interpretation as an important inspiration for our design direction.

Project History

  1. Ancient China
    Traditional zhuanxin teapot

Chinese traditional mechanism teapots already included designs that pour different liquids from the same vessel using a special internal structure. The zhuanxin teapot and related dual-liquid mechanism teapots are the technical source of this project. Bacon Magic did not originate this principle.

  2. Late 2025
    Design inspiration

The "Huixin Teapot and Zhuanyi Cup" set from JD Jingzao brought this traditional technique back to our attention. Compared with the more specialised appearance of earlier mechanism teapots, this product is much closer to everyday teaware, and it inspired us to develop a version suited to magic performance.

  3. October 2026
    Product development

Bacon Magic began systematic 3D modelling and structural development, working to bring the traditional dual-liquid principle into an English teapot form. After several rounds of design and sample revisions, the current structure took shape.

  4. October 2026
    Public research

We decided to include this teapot's design and development material in Bacon Magic Open Research, publishing the research to other creators and allowing further building and improvement.

  5. November 2026
    Research record published

The Open Research record for this project went live with disclosure level P3 (full technical disclosure) and usage permission M3 (fully open, credit required). Later revisions will be recorded on this timeline.

Files & Downloads

<p>The V19 engineering release is being prepared for open download. The following packages will be published here under an open hardware license:</p><p>• Print-ready STL parts (body, lid, bottom cap, drain plug)</p><p>• STEP interface files (lid, bottom cap, spout voids, interfaces)</p><p>• Printing & post-processing guide (resin print orientation, seal, O-ring specs)</p><p>• Filling kit guide and parameter manifest</p><p>License: design files under CERN-OHL-P-2.0; text and images under CC BY 4.0. Files will appear here once the current V20 revisions are packaged.</p>
