Crashed Pro – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: My iPhone detects the NFC and runs the shortcut, but nothing happens after waiting. What should I do?

This is usually caused by the iPhone’s volume settings.

Please go to:

Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Change with Buttons

Make sure “Change with Buttons” is turned OFF.

Crashed Pro is triggered by changing the phone’s volume. If this option is turned on, adjusting the volume in the Control Center may change the ringer volume instead of the media/system volume, which prevents the shortcut from triggering properly.

In some cases, the effect may accidentally trigger when you press the side volume buttons, which is why it may appear to work inconsistently.

Performance Tip:
When borrowing a spectator’s phone, you cannot know whether this setting is enabled or not. Therefore, the tutorial recommends the following sequence:

Secretly press one of the side volume buttons first

Then open the Control Center

This ensures the trigger mechanism works reliably.

Q2: The effect triggers correctly, but I cannot stop it by pressing the volume button. Why?

The most common reason is that the phone’s volume is not actually changing.

Crashed Pro works by detecting changes in the phone’s volume level. If the volume does not change, the shortcut will not trigger.

Here are the most common causes:

1. The volume is already at maximum
If the volume is already at the maximum level, pressing Volume Up will not change the volume, so the shortcut cannot detect the change.

Try pressing Volume Down instead.

2. The Camera app intercepts the volume buttons
If the phone is currently on the Camera screen, the volume buttons will act as camera shutter buttons instead of adjusting the volume.

Please make sure the phone is not on the Camera screen when attempting to stop the effect.

3. The volume never actually changes
Some performers set the phone’s volume to maximum before performing, then repeatedly press Volume Up, which does not produce any volume change.

As long as the volume level actually changes, the effect will stop correctly.

If you are still experiencing issues, please record a short video showing how you operate the phone, and I will gladly help troubleshoot the problem.

Q3: My phone screen is stuck in an inverted color mode (Classic Invert). How do I restore it?

This can happen if the Shortcut is force-closed before it finishes running, which prevents the final step that restores the screen colors.

If this happens, simply run the following recovery shortcut once:

Running it once will return the display to normal.

This does not affect your phone or the gimmick, and you do not need to reinstall Crashed Pro.

Q4: Sometimes the NFC does not trigger the shortcut. What should I do?

The NFC sensor position varies slightly depending on the iPhone model.

In most cases:

On iPhone XR / XS and newer models, the NFC sensor is located near the top of the back of the phone (close to the camera area).

Hold the phone near the NFC tag for 1–2 seconds rather than quickly tapping it.

If the shortcut does not trigger, try:

Placing the top back of the phone near the NFC tag

Holding it still for 1–2 seconds

Slightly moving the phone to locate the optimal detection spot

Very thick phone cases or metal materials may also affect NFC detection.

Q5: Why does the trigger speed vary between different iPhones?

This is completely normal.

Crashed Pro works through iOS Shortcuts, and the execution speed may vary depending on:

The iPhone model

The iOS version

Background apps running on the phone

The device’s current performance state

Typically the effect will trigger within a few seconds, but slight variations between devices are expected.

In performance situations, this delay can easily be covered naturally through your presentation and interaction with the spectator.
