Magic Playhouse
Deqing
Magic Playhouse sits inside Shangzhu Mountain Fantasy Valley (上渚山奇幻谷) in Deqing, near Moganshan — a purpose-built, 2,000-square-meter theater designed from the ground up for large-scale magic performance. It was built in partnership with the scenic area, and functions, in its own way, like one giant magic prop.
The Space
The theater seats 740 and features an IMAX-style immersive stage with a wrap-around design.
The Stage
Two iconic "magician's hands" dominate the stage. Each is 9 meters long and weighs 5 tons, combining mirrored stainless steel with LED, lasers, flame, and smoke effects. Above the audience, 24 transparent "ice screens" float like playing cards, creating shifting visual landscapes throughout the show.
Productions
The resident production is The Miracle Show, China's first long-running cultural-tourism magic spectacular, which premiered on National Day 2022. Weaving Deqing's local "wandering son" culture into its story, the show features large-scale illusions including a "100-person time travel" effect. The props were designed by a Canadian team whose credits include Disney, with most pieces created exclusively for this production.
The show stars Wen Peiran (文沛然), known as the "Prince of Illusion." A student of Lu Chen, Wen is a gold award-winner of the China Golden Chrysanthemum Award and a FISM Asia medalist, equally at home in grand illusion and close-up performance.
