ZEE: Three Sleights
- Techniques simplified
- Deceptive Subtleties
- 40-minutes of detailed instruction
Anyone who does card magic has probably had this experience: watching a master perform, everything flows like real magic — but the moment you try it yourself, all ten fingers seem to be off doing their own thing, as if you were doing rehabilitation exercises on a deck of cards.
But the truth is, a sleight rarely needs to be so fast that it tears through the air. What matters more is that the movement itself is accurate, natural, and logical.
In this roughly 40-minute tutorial, magician ZEE takes 3 classic sleights apart and re-examines them, and offers his own optimized adaptations. These 3 classic sleights, refined by ZEE himself, are easier to understand and more deceptive, so you can master them faster and put them into real performances.
What's Included in This Tutorial
Pinky Count
It lets you count off the number of cards you want with a very small movement. The difficulty lies in the pressure and feel of your pinky, all while keeping the action fully concealed. ZEE starts with the grip — basic, but often overlooked — and walks you through the details step by step: how to apply pressure with the pinky and how to practice it, how to read the spring-back feedback of the cards... all of which helps you count to your target number quickly and accurately, and achieve a concealed, controlled micro-move.
Bluff Pass
This is a highly deceptive sleight: it looks as though you are placing the selected card into the deck, but it actually goes second from the top. The emphasis here is on body language and misdirection. ZEE teaches you how to coordinate the movements of different parts of your body, how to make the sleight more convincing, and how to better conceal the number of cards involved.
Classic Pass
As its name suggests, this is a classic and fundamental pass — it brings the selected card to the top of the deck. Many performers chase "lightning speed" with this sleight in real performances, whereas ZEE focuses on its concealment and the accuracy of its details. In the tutorial you will learn how to change the movement to make the pass more invisible, how much pressure each finger should apply while executing it, and how the different parts of the movement connect to one another.
These 3 techniques are not as fiendish as you might imagine. Once you have them sorted out, you can use them in real performances with ease. ZEE's teaching focuses on the coordination of body posture, the control of performance pacing, and on avoiding some of the drawbacks of the original versions, so the sleight no longer looks abrupt or forced.
In pure sleight-of-hand card magic, they are like 3 handy universal keys — easy to apply to all kinds of routines you already know, so that in a moment the audience never notices, a magical control is quietly completed.
